Alpenrose Velodrome in Sports Illustrated

Dave Brink went on to ride in the 1968 Olympics and place third in the
first, original Your of California.

Bob Parsons is now Rob Parsons and lives in Santa Cruz, California. The
last I hear he was coaching riders.

Jack Disney now lives in Discovery Bay, California, and is totally out of
cycling -- except for being in the Bicycle Hall of Fame. The last I heard
he was playing a round of golf a day and was in good shape.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Alpenrose Velodrome in Sports Illustrated

Just when I thought I had seen everything about Alpenrose Velodrome today
I stumbled across this archival article from Sports Illustrated about the
Nationals in Portland in 1967. Thought I would share:

http://www.si.com/vault/1967/08/21/609445/racing-through-dairyland

For reference the 4K record is now Zak Kovalcik 4:52.93 which would put
Zak just over a full lap ahead of Dave Brink who was the Pursuit winner
that year.

Many of the names in the article are familiar and some are still around.

Such a special place. Thanks for finding and sharing that, Mike.

For everyone else who just read that, think about making a donation or
buying a pair of #trackvibes socks to help keep the track healthy for more
generations of Oregon bike racers.

I got as far into the article as "60 laps around Mt Tabor" and became ill.

That was incredible. Thanks for sharing, Mike! Amazing read, and yet
another tribute to how truly amazing Alpenrose and the Cadonau family are.
