For the folks interested in ODOT policies regarding walking and
biking. We had a 6 hour meeting at ODOT on this yesterday. Your
feedback is critical especially since many of us train on the roads.
Pass this onto your recreational clubs too.

Warning. This is long but see the notes below as to which chapters
are the most important.

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Modal plan ODOTs high level bike/ped
policy document is out for public comment. This is not a facilities
plan, rather its the foundation document that should guide ODOTs
priorities and provide guidance to local agencies on issues related to
walking and biking.

Its a big document and I have a few thoughts to share as you review it:

Its a big plan, lots of content. I would not spend my time on
Chapters 1 or 2. Yes they are important, but they are not the content
that will be acted upon. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 are the meat. Read those,
chew on them, digest them. If you have limited time then focus on a
specific topic like safety or health and review the policy and
strategies related to that topic.

Heres a few questions to ponder: Are these policies complete? Is
there any thing missing? Is there a policy or strategy that needs to
be changed? Deleted? Will these policies help or hinder your efforts?

The comment period closes Feb 18th.

And pass this word. Well be living with this document for 20 years J.

Happy Holidays All!
