Yahoo is not any better. Any free service is going to be prone to
'compromise'. They allow spamming in order to pay off the 'free
service'. Sadly, it is a fact of usenet life.
Of course, Seth has the best approach. Find an ISP that filters heavily,
and use hotmail or yahoo as the address to receive obrachat through.
Makes life much easier and you have a builtin spamtrap!
