Yahoo is not any better. Any free service is going to be prone to

'compromise'. They allow spamming in order to pay off the 'free

service'. Sadly, it is a fact of usenet life.



Of course, Seth has the best approach. Find an ISP that filters heavily,

and use hotmail or yahoo as the address to receive obrachat through.

Makes life much easier and you have a builtin spamtrap!

I seriously doubt that Topica will be taken off blacklist any time soon. I have discussed this issue with several folks at University of Oregon, where I work, and where Topica is blocked outright. Topica uses a rather underhanded method of spam distribution. They setup valid services (i.e. mailing lists) and then use the same servers to distribute spam. The idea is that people won't block these servers since they are running valid non-spam services. Topica is a major spam distributor, and the blacklists rightly block it. I use alternative (non-UofO) email to access my obra mail.

Is there not something just terribly, awfully wrong about having to change

your mailing list usage because your ISP is dealing with spam in an

incredibly wrong-headed way? Which one of you is the customer, and which

one of you is paying the bill? By axiom, which one of you is "always

right"?



Would it not be more productive, not to mention more satisfying, to deliver

to your ISP strongly worded missives directing them to let you decide what

is and isn't spam, and if they won't, you'll find one that will? And then

back up that threat with action?

Topica and topica spam has been an issue for sometime now. Tpica is one

of the worst offenders for harboring spammers and spamlists.
