Let's all be realistic, shall we? 5 years ago we would have had 40 people out for a Thursday night track race. Now 12 is a good number. Combine the low turnout with the heat and it doesn't make sense to race. If we had 40-plus people that were wanting to race in a Thursday night, we would race on a Thursday night like we have in the past.

Darell, the heat is part of the issue. Attendance and conflicting events is
the bigger issue this week. Of the 8 Sr. Men that raced last week, I know
at least 5 of them that won't be around. I also think we can cut out
another 5-6 racers who do not want to race on a Thursday night when it is
98 degrees in the bowl. Some of which may want to save it for the masters
track tracing or the NW Champs at Marymoor this weekend. That leaves an
extremely low attendance that would probably not even cover the officials
pay for the evening.

I could be 100% incorrect about all of this, but it is a risk I am taking,
especially considering all the other track racing that is available this
weekend.

Perhaps I am soft.

The one PIR race which was cancelled was due to standing water on the course. This was so many years ago that the person that cancelled the event was Randy Shafer. At the time he was a local official and race organizer. This week you could see him on TV as he is an official in Rio. If cancelling PIR due to flooding is evidence of being soft then we have been that way for a long time, since before many OBRA members were born.

Cancelling Thursday racing makes sense given that there is racing both days this weekend.

Hmmm. I think that in my 36 yrs of racing this is the first time a track race at Alpenrose gets cancelled because of heat (forecast says high of 97). We also had a PIR race years ago cancelled because of too much rain. Maybe next a cross race will be cancelled because of too much mud. Are we getting too soft?

Hi All, I am canceling track racing tomorrow.
