Buns to Pie Ride, Saturday, September 10th

A few people have inquired about the return trip.

There is no organized (by me, anyway) plan for this. I am personally
staying the night at the coast with my wife and driving back on Sunday.

One option for people would be The Wave (Tillamook's public
transportation.) They have a Tillamook to Portland route that can
accommodate bikes, but you should plan to stay the night unless you can
ride a lot faster than I can; the last one for the day departs at 12:55 pm.
Again, you are welcome to stash a bag in our car, which my wife will drive
out to Tillamook.

I'd also be willing to do a car shuttle on Friday night if that helped
(i.e. you park your car somewhere in Tillamook on Friday night, and I can
give you a ride back as far as the Hillsboro Max terminus. Limited to 3
people, and departing Tillamook no later than 8 pm.)

If you're not racing next Saturday (the 10th), come join me on the Buns to
Pie ride: https://www.strava.com/clubs/222429/group_events/116862

60-miles, mostly gravel ride from Forest Grove to Tillamook.

You'll want at least 35c tires, and make sure your brakes have plenty of
pad. 40c and disc brakes recommended if you have the option.

RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK - This is no kind of sanctioned event, and no support
is being provided. The route takes you into a remote area with no cellphone
reception and very few cars (a large part of it is even closed to public
motorized vehicles.) Be prepared to deal with your own medical and
mechanical issues.

The convenience store at the intersection of Old-47 and Scoggins Valley Rd
is the last place to purchase food or drink until you reach Tillamook. Make
sure you are carrying sufficient food and water for the ride. I'd recommend
three bottles *plus* a means to purify more water once you get up to Barney
Reservoir.

Person with the lowest cumulative time for the following segments (as per
the Strava segments' leader boards for that day) gets a six pack of beer or
something, sponsored by me, because you deserve it:

* Nw Mt Richmond Rd Climb
* North Trask Summit
* Lumpy
* A bit of a downer

Meet at Maggie's Buns in Forest Grove at 9am for coffee and a quick
breakfast. Plan to roll out by 10am. We will meet up at Fat Dog Pizza in
Tillamook for post-ride dinner.

My wife will be driving out to Tillamook to meet me there. She can put some
luggage in the car with her if you have anything that you will want in
Tillamook and don't need to have during the ride (within reason; it's only
a Civic, so no, she cannot carry all the camping gear for 3 different camp
sites, etc.)
