Was: Any asthma sufferers in OBRA land? Just want some information.Both
anabolic and corticosteroids are banned. Corticosteroids have been used
because of their anti-inflammatory effect. Some people have thought that
this may be of benefit in decreasing muscle fatigue or soreness, especially
for events like stage races. Whether this is true or not is not known.
Personally I doubt that there is any performance benefit associated with
corticosteroids especially for people that do not have any disease state
that this drugs would be indicated for. If you look at the list of banned
agents it will be pretty apparent that many of them would not provide any
real performance enhancement. Most drugs are on the list because they have
been misused, mostly in a mistaking assumption that they would improve
performance, and because they be dangerous for athletes to use. Examples
are:
Cannabinoids
Narcotics
Diuretics
Masking agents

On this topic of corticosteroids, I've had several shoulder surgeries and
they both have been injected a number of times. I don't remember any "lift"
in my performance. I think most of the injections may have been prednisone
with a long term numbing agent. Could a doctor comment on why this is
banned and does it actually improve performance in some way? I was under
the impression it was the anabolic type of steroids that were not allowed.
