Before everyone gets up in arms, knowing Peter, I would find it hard to believe that he would be rude about it. Peter is always willing to work with people to make this a better sport. How do you expect someone to learn if someone does not take the time to tell you when you have made a mistake? All Peter did was point out what it meant and the error. I suppose you kinder souls would have looked the other way and let the kid continue to make the error. It does not sound particularly kind to me though.
As for wearing team jerseys, the manufacturers sell them so people can ride around in them. They are not sold for the purpose of being worn in a race unless you are on the team. If you bought one fine. Wear it riding around, to work, to bed, to your wedding or funeral, but that does not necessarily mean you get to race in it. Racing is a team sport, and for that reason we have team jerseys. The analogy to the Packers jersey is way off point. You can wear you Packers jersey or any other jersey to a game, but they are not going to let you play on the field. You can wear your Cipo jersey to a race, but you should not expect to race in it. Sports have rules and traditions, and if you want to participate, you should respect the sport and abide by them. It is not supposed to be a free for all.
Granted, we are not taking about a capital crime, but there is no harm in pointing it out so long as discretion is used and the message is polite.
