It seems that cross-country riders like courses not tracks. Although this
is great for the rider, it is very uneventful for the spectator. They see
people leave and come back with at least a hour break in-between. To
satisfy both spectator and participate, where possible, courses could be
clover shape or traverse back and fourth to one central point. This makes
it easier for spectators so see the action.
Yes, XC riders like long courses. I general I prefer long, single loop
routes and will seek them out.
The races should be designed for the racers, not the specators. MTB racing
should not be Cyclo-cross (which I love) or BMX.
There are only a few of this type of race left: The Mud Slinger; Coast
Hills Classic (experts repete the outer loop); Humbug Hurryup; and my
favorite this year, Return on the Jedi.
Longer is better.
