Maybe no surcharge for the wheels?

Candi:

I happily dropped my dollar in the jar at POC #3 even though I

ride C-10. I also have no problem paying an entry surcharge to have

spare wheels available. I've never liked to hassle with placing in and

fetching from a follow vehicle or crit pit a pair of spare wheels that I

might not get back. The wheel program is a fine service and I very much

appreciate all that you and the other tireless OBRA folks do to make

Oregon head and shoulders the best place I've ever raced.

Well the donations did very poorly. Last race $83 and two people gave

$10 a

piece. I had trouble with the people voluntarily donating and the

others

just using it with no input. Thought it would work out better if it was

shared by everyone. Now with the demand for 10 speeds we couldn't run

the

program at all without a source of income. We put out the message to

the

group and overwhelmingly got back the response to tack on the $1. If

there

is such a back draft on this being negative we can just cancel it.

Hi Candy,

Between you and me, I think this is a very poorly worded message. I

think

you are going to set off a lot of people. Maybe I'm missing something,

and

that was your intention. But this doesn't feel like it's keeping with

the

culture of OBRA to me.

I have felt good about donating a buck at a couple of races this year,

even

though, as a Shimano 10-sp rider, I can only use the front wheels, I

don't

mind helping out. Now I feel like just another dope being walked on by

a

bureaucracy.

I appreciate the wheel program and am glad it's there, even though I

haven't

used it. But there is a big difference between paying an entry fee to

cover

all costs of promoting a race (including hopefully a little profit for

the

promoter), and paying an entry fee plus a bunch of miscellaneous

surcharges.

I know it's only one.....so far.

Did the promoters have input on this?

You can share this if you want, I just didn't want to knock you infront

of

the group.

Thanks,

Ron

Road Rider-

OBRA had now imposed a $1 wheel tax on all road race entry fees. So

when

you head to OSU it will be $16 instead of $15

Piece of Cake will be $18 preregister, $21 day of race

Kings Valley is now $20 preregister, $26 day of race

UofO is $18 peregister and $21 day of race

Save the organizers the hassel and remember your $1 bills!
