Mike

You've been around long enough to remember when I promoted all the State Championships, with help from people like you and Frau Murray and many others. Back then, in the 80's, I don't recall doing more than listing my events in Oregon Cycling and the Bicycle Paper. But, for example, the Road Championships were so popular that I created what I called The Rehearsal Road Race, so that the categories could be spread over two weekends, and I think we still got over 300 for each day. Remember the Crit Championships in Gresham? Seems like there were several hundred riders for those, too. Maybe, in my old age, I am inflating the numbers, but the State Championships were a big deal, and winning one made you a big deal For a few years, if you showed up with your State Champion jersey, you got free admission to the same type of race that you were champion of. Things have definitely changed in the past couple of decades.
