Van Aert Comments on US World Cup Races

We have had European elite riders but not in large numbers. To make that
happen really would only take money directed towards that issue. This would,
of course, mean less directed towards the participatory races which is what
most races in Oregon are. There is not much about races being USAC
sanctioned that specifically draws in foreign participants.

Dual sanctioning is not at all a new deal. There were many years of races
where the elite fields were USAC sanctioned and the other categories were
OBRA races. Cascade Classic was one of them. USAC unilaterally walked from
doing this a few years ago.

I don't think it strictly has anything to do with OBRA's relationship
with USAC, but whenever you get folks from Europe come race here in
the US and comment on the atmosphere, the participation, the
spectators at USAC races - I sure wish we could get them out here to
see what we've got in the PNW. Maybe we can get Stan Nice to put in a
good word for us...

In all seriousness, I'm curious to see if dual-sanctioning races like
Crusade is doing will make any difference. I'd sure love to see
worldwide focus on some of our awesome venues and riders.

I'm not seeing what the referenced article has to do with OBRA independence.

I know we enjoy our OBRA Independence, but goodness, it always makes me
jealous/slightly upset when I see articles like this and we're not even
available to be in the conversation.

PS - This post isn't necessarily advocating reunification, the politics of
it, or even the reasons for/against it, but I do wish we could get to a
point where we could talk about creative ways to somehow keep our
Independence AND be rolled into the larger conversation and cycling world
