Hey OBRA land. Please check out the press release below regarding a

great juniors MTB camp on Orcas Island. My son and I were in attendance

for a day last year and I can assure you it is a very worthwhile camp

where the kids learn a lot about riding, racing and life. I will be

there again with my 10-year old son Jake (he's a camper, I'll help

leading rides). I hope to see a lot of Oregon kids up there as well.

Cheers,

Brian Witty

Brian,

Please give this good distribution in Oregon, OBRA etc..., any thread

you can think of.

I would love to see a good group of kids from Oregon come to camp.

For Immediate Release:

Seattle, Washington April 9, 2004.

The Greater Seattle YMCA is proud to announce the 2004 version of

Freedom Sports Week at Camp Orkila on Orcas Island June 30-July 7th.

One of the key featured units in Freedom Sports Week is Mountain Biking.

After a very successful camp in 2003

http://www.nwracereport.com/news/071503_mtb_camp.htm Mountain Biking

will expand into 2 units for 2004

Seattle YMCA Camping has formed a partnership with Rad Racing NW which

has the distinction of being named 2003 USA Cycling Junior Club of The

Year, and designated as a 2003 USA Cycling Center For Excellence.

www.radracingnw.org

Rad Racing NW MTB Director and USA Cycling Expert Coach Doug Graver will

head up the mountain bike camp.

This will be designed for riders of all abilities, boys and girls grades

6-10(Fall 04).

He will be supported by Joe Sales and Jim Brown also of Rad Racing NW,

additionally Dave Schilling of Aurora Cycles will round out the core

group of coaches which will be supplemented by several more volunteers.

Former US National Cyclocross Coach, Geoff Proctor will be heading up

the Advanced Mountain Bike Camp.

This will be designed for riders with more experience on the bike who

are looking to be challenged to increase their skills and knowledge in

mountain biking.

As a baseline riders in the advanced camp should have the endurance and

skills able to ride for 2+ hours.

Also appearing at the camp will be 2004 US World Cyclocross Team Member

Tucker Thomas of Rad Racing NW.

Northwest mountain bike legends Dale and Ann Knapp from the Kona Factory

MTB and Cyclocross Team, will be joining in on the fun and passing on

the wealth of knowledge that has helped them to become stars of mountain

bike and cyclocross racing.

For younger kids who love to ride their bikes but are not quite old

enough for the MTB camp there will be a BMX unit taking place.

With the help of the American Bicycle Association, Redline Bicycles and

many community volunteers, Orkila has built a National Class BMX track

onsite at the camp.

Boys and girls grades 3-10 can learn from some of the best in the

business during this exciting week.

Other units that are part of Freedom Sports Week include: Skateboarding,

Advanced Skateboarding, Inline Skating, Ultimate Frisbee, Trail Running,

and Sailing.

Additionally, the inaugural Warren Miller Freedom Sports Film Camp for

boys and girls grades 8-10 will be part of the program.

Other great activities that Camp Orkila has to offer to all campers are:

Swimming, Archery, Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Ocean Beach, Marine

Science Center, Camp Fires, and Capture the Flag, to name a few.

The choice to pursue your personal best is at the heart of Freedom

Sports Week.

The YMCA recognizes these sports.... which are a little off the beaten

path.

We want to celebrate these sports, give professional instruction, and

then help to plug kids into organizations and facilities back home that

they can continue to pursue their chosen sports.

For questions on the program contact Jim Brown konac-@comcast.net

Registration questions can be directed to Jamie Lynch
