Next week will end the month of flat Time Trials for the Eugene area
with the Hill Climb starting on May 5th. We have had an extremely good
turn-out for the event with about 35 new license sold over the past 3
weeks, bringing in some new racers to the OBRA Fold. Even this past week
of 43 riders was almost as large as our biggest event last year. Here is
where we are at in the overall standings in each category. Consistency
pays off for when it comes to a weekly series, earning points every race
as well as improving times seem to keep everything pretty close.
So let?s all plan for sunny skies next week, knock on wood, and remember
we will be at Track Town Pizza after the race handing out the prizes we
have and selling raffle tickets for the Renn Disc Wheel, Profile Aero
Bars and Burley Cargo Trailer. They have great pizza and good beer on
tap, not that I want to ruin anyone?s training buy forcing to drink a
beer or two.
With a 4 point lead over Nick Skenzick of Hutch?s Rick Hammel of EWEB
Windpower goes into the last time trial of the series with 1 win and
only seems to be getting faster each week. It would take Nick placing 3
places in front of Rick to win the overall, will Rick hold onto his form
for another week? Or will he falter on the last day? Zach Winter of
Hayden-Frontier is still in for top three if he shows up and races the
last event but could be over taken by Brian Mitchell of Hutch?s.

In the cat 3 arena Martin Holland-Bak of Hutch?s has taken the past two
races an in turn taken the overall lead over Galen Mitterman of
Hayden-Frontier, who might be a little closer had he not missed a turn
at the first race. Suppose I will race next week which might give
Martin a run for his money on the night but Lief Hochendoner of Hutch?s
and Seth May of Collins have been consistent enough stay up there in the
top 3rd and 4th places. Last year Seth won one of the series by being
the most consistent, can he pull off a good finish next week and over
take Lief for 3rd?

This has been the biggest class of all, with 40 racers to date. Brian
Cadman has a slim 4 point lead over Timothy Link of Bike Friday who has
a 4 point lead over Joel Wilson of Paul?s Bicycle Way of Life. Then
there is Gary Malcom, Christopher White, and Greg Crawford of EWEB
Windpower all with within reach of a top 5 placing. Brian won the first
two races but didn?t make it out for the 3rd which made it possible for
Timothy and Joel to get within striking distance of the top spot. Will
Brian make it out for the last race? Or will one of the other top 5
riders sitting in the wings pull something magical out of the hat and
take the overall honors? Next week is bound to be a close race and may
be the hardest to figure out in the end but with it so wide open we will
have to wait and see after the dust settles.

Consistency has defiantly paid off in this category. Even with Scott
Springer of Fred Meyer Cycling showing up and winning the past two
events it seems that Tracy Wilson of Columbia Velo has been consistent
enough to hold his margin over Ron Frerichs of Hutch?s by 6 points.
Brian McBride is in 3rd place along with Scott but Eric Ahlvin of EWEB
Windpower is sitting just 4 points down. The top 5 places in this
category could all change next week depending on who shows up and who
has the legs.

Two juniors have made it out to date, 1 more than last year so I guess
that is an improvement. Davis Shepard has already been picked up by the
Hutch?s team and holds a 22 point lead over Alex Reightley of EWEB
Windpower. It would be nice to see more juniors come out and race so
pack up those bikes and make it down for the last TT of the series.

The Tandem category has seen Greg and his son race twice and now have
the lead with 36 points. Mike and Grace of EWEB Windpower could still
over take them but only if they make it out and Greg doesn?t. Of course
Jim and Heather could do the same thing. Maybe next week we will see a
clash of the Tandems and get a few more out there?..

Veronica Valda of Hutch?s is not only a fast cat 3 women but also
consistent enough to make each race and take a huge lead over 2nd place

same thing next month at the hill climb? Or will there be some new
challengers? Maybe from the larger cat 4 field?

With Jaini Crawford of EWEB Windpower winning both races she has entered
so far she could be in the position to take the overall away from Erin
Koenig of Wheelworks. But that would take Erin either not showing up or
finishing out of the points. Beatriz sits just 8 point down from Erin
and 6 points in front of Jaini, can she pull a good race off to hold off
Jaini from over taking 2nd? 4th-7th seem to be a matter of who shows up
and who has the better legs for the night, all within 9 points there
could be a bit of shuffling going on.

The first week showed 4 50+ women make it out for the race. Since then
we haven?t seen them back so their finishing order that first night is
where they all sit right now. Last year Flo Leibowitz of Hutch?s
