I agree that a chainring limit isn't really a gear restriction. A pretty honkin' big gear can be made with a 42 ring. It might make more sense to have a gear-development limit, the distance the bike travels in one revolution of the cranks. It would be easy to check with just two painted lines on the pavement. This might even encourage some folks to revisit some of the techniques they used as juniors to get just inside the limit. Tire selection could be quite critical. Not that I'm volunteering to run a tech chute, I'll be too busy racing.



Some of those Alpenrose pursuit monsters might be a little more comfortable racing counter-clockwise rather than the usual direction on that course. Then again, that could even the playing field, everyone knows trackies can't turn right.
