I don't know why it is every cyclocross season I need to post this message
but I do. Here is the 2000 Version:
(Disclaimer) Cyclocross scoring (especially when there are multiple fields
out on the course at one time is difficult. Number placement is crucial
and if there is mud it makes it even more difficult. You can't believe how
many people put numbers 1. On the wrong side, 2. Upside down 3. Under
there vest and/or camelback 4. On there stomachs (I swear!).
Anyway!
If you suspect that we have made a mistake in scoring. Please, politely
point out what you think was the error and give all the particular facts as
you know them. Many times even little facts like what kind of jersey you
were wearing or who you were passing or riding with are important. If you
can do this as soon after the results are posted it is very much
appreciated, so we can research the error. (the way we score the event is
to write every number down each and every lap and then separate that data
into the appropriate fields and then rank them. This means that there are
up to 3 or more score sheets for every lap taken by the leader). If you
don't know who to notify then send a message to me or to the webmaster
and/or race promoter and we can forward that message
While officials do undergo training and are paid (PAID? is $35 for an 8
hour day really pay) there is no way they should have to tolerate rudeness,
sarcasm or any other type of harrassment. Please remember that it is very
hard to get volunteers and that we try to treat them with the utmost
gratitude (chocolate always helps)
Please do not repeat any of the following (or similar) phrases to the
officials
"What are you blind?"
"Any fathead can score this race!"
"What they hell do I pay my $10 for?"
"What will it take to move me up a lap?" (Well maybe this one would be okay
;-) )
We want your experience to be a good one and for you to keep coming back to
experience the thrill or 'cross. We really do appreciate your attempt to
correct us and ask that you help is in assuring that the results are 100%
accurate.
Thanks
