Pickett's Charge is just a few weeks away! We've expanded the festivities this year so make sure you mark your calendars for being in Bend the weekend of June 28-29. In addition to being the last race in the Mudslinger XC Series, check out what's happening:
1. We have a new course and it's awesome (according to the course master Don Leet). You can review the course map and description on the website: http://pickettschargebend.com/course/
Register online today: The first 100 registered receive free socks with their entry: http://pickettschargebend.com/register/ Entry fees go up on June 20th!
We will have Deschutes Brewery beer at the finish line for racers
Post-race snacks will be available as always, but consider making a day of it and visiting the burger/beer tent for more substantive food (see below)
2. The folks at Cog Wild will be hosting mountain bike demo days all day. The list (so far) is pretty extensive of local bike shops that will be on site for you (and your friends that come with you) to demo bikes for FREE:
Sunnyside Sports: Ibis, Trek and Turner with a Yeti demo truck full of bikes
Crows Feet Commons: Devinci bikes
WebCyclery: Scott and the Niner truck
Sagebrush Cycles: Rocky Mountain and Pivot demo truck
Pine Mountain Sports: Santa Cruz and Trek
A few details about demos....
No, you can't demo a bike to race on! Demos will take place from the start/finish area of Pickett's (Wanoga Sno Park). Cog Wild has a great demo course that's virtually all downhill on the "Funner" trail. Cog Wild is also offering a FREE shuttle to bring you back up.
Race, demo a bike afterwards...it's downhill. What's another few miles?
If you do want to demo a bike, bring your shoes and helmets. Shimano and Crank bothers and regular flat pedals are available, but if you have something else, you need to bring your own pedals
3. We will have breakfast, lunch and beer available!
COTA (Central Oregon Trail Alliance) will be grilling burgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers/dogs. 100% of your donation goes to COTA who manages all of the trails in Central Oregon, which allows us to have great races like PIckett's Charge and an overall amazing trail system.
The Humane Society of Central Oregon will have basic breakfast items available starting at 7:30 am: muffins, fruit, juice and energy drinks available for a suggested donation. All money goes to the Humane Society of Central Oregon
BEER: Gorilla Growlers will have loads of local beers on tap from Goodlife, Worthy Brewing, Crux, Boneyard, Deschutes, Bend Brewing and McMenamins. 100% of the proceeds benefit nonprofit
4. Bend's 92/9 Radio Station will have a vehicle on site pumping music all day!
Thanks,
Gina and the Sunnyside Sports Race Team
