As of right now the mixed tandem pair from the USA of Spencer Yates and
Kharissa Whitsell have set a new Paralympic record in the 3k mixed pursuit
qualifing of 3:36 they have qualified first so far.

Isn't Kharissa our Oregon Junior from Springfield? If I'm not mistaken,
she got here start on the back of our Pogliogi, a retired Olympic track
tandem.

Yep Same girl Bonnie, Whitsell, 19, is the youngest member of the U.S.
cycling team. She learned of the Paralympics when she met Assistant Coach
Mike Rosenberg (a 1996 Paralympic medalist) at a bicycle-racing club in
Eugene, OR. Whitsell is very excited about competing in her first
Paralympics, and says she hopes to be a good example for up-and-coming young
cyclists.
Although Whitsell is young (she graduated high school this summer), her
pilot is veteran Spencer Yates. Yates set a world record in the
quarterfinals in the men's tandem 4000m pursuit at the 1996 Games with Matt
King. The two have only been training together since Whitsell moved to
Colorado in June, but Whitsell says that is not much of a factor. "I felt
really comfortable the first time riding with him," says Whitsell. "I think
we're really compatible strength-wise."
Both Whitsell and Yates feel they have a good chance to medal in the
pursuit. If they do well, Whitsell would consider applying for permanent
residency at the Olympic Training Center. She is planning to go to college
in Eugene, Ore., or Colorado Springs, Col.
