===========================================================
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone had a great time out at Columbia Plateau this past weekend.
Just a couple of reminders and updates regarding the 2004 Mt. Hood Cycling
Classic.
Registration
There is only one more week for early registration which closes May 20th.
Late registrations will be taken up to the 27th of May with a $10 late fee
added on. There will be NO registrations accepted after May 27th so make
sure and get them in. The current registrations as of today look like this.
Pro 1-2 20% Full (Let's go you 1/2's quit
procrastinating!)
Women's 10% Full
CAT 3 70% Full
CAT 4 60% Full
Masters 45% Full
Lodging
Lodging is getting tight. Here is what is left as of today. Cooper Spur
Mountain Resort just had a cancelation yesterday and now has one cabin
available to rent. Get on it fast if you are interested as it will go fast.
In addition I just found out that the resort just put in a new frisbee golf
course and is installing 4 brand new hot tubs on their sun deck that are
litterally going to be done right before our event. It is a sweet setup.
Best Western Hood River Inn has just 2 rooms left for Thursday through
Sunday and 10 rooms left for Friday through Sunday. These rooms are
currently blocked off for our event as the rest of their accomodations are
booked. However all of these rooms will be let go back to the general
public on Friday if they are not reserved. Hood River Inn is one of our
host sponsors so results will be posted there nightly. For info on both
hotels visit our lodging page on the MHCC web site at
http://www.mthoodcyclingclassic.com/lodging.htm Finally for a little
different option there is Old Parkdale Inn B&B. Located in Parkdale this
establishment is centerally located between Cooper Spur and Hood River.
Best location of all the accomodations. For more info go to
http://www.hoodriverlodging.com/ Camping is also available at Toll Bridge
park just nine miles away and includes full hookups and showers.
Meals
Cooper Spur Mountain Resort will once again open up its restraunt to offer a
great menu with fantastic food. Renowned for its signature steaks, seafood
and pasta, this is fine dining with great atmosphere. Meal tickets can be
purchased during online registration or at packet pick up Thursday night.
You can have the option to purchase the package that includes 3 breakfast,
the pasta feed, and post race BBQ for $45 (also includes a pint of Full Sail
at the BBQ) or purchase just the Pasta Feed for just $8.95 which will be
served immediately after stage 2 and BBQ Sunday for between $7-$10 depending
on which meal you get. This year there will be hamburgers and chicken
offered along with other great items at the post race celebration BBQ.
Courses
All the courses look good with the exception of Stage 5. There is still
roughly a mile and a half of intermitten snow drifts across the tops of the
Lost Lake climb and the Vista Ridge climb. You can ride all the way up to
the KOM sprints on both climbs and ride 100% of the decents. The last climb
up to Cooper Spur Ski Area is snow free but has lots of sand and gravel on
it right now so if you ride be cautious. Stage 5 will be open for the race
one way or another as I have lined up a plow and permits to remove the snow.
We will get through one way or another.
New
New for this year are team competitions for both the Pro 1-2 men and women.
In the men's race each team must consist of at least five riders with
scoring being calculated based off of the 3 fastest times for that teamper
stage. On the women's side each team must have a minimum of 3 riders and
the three fastes times will be used for each stage. A minimum of 5 teams
must be present in order to run the competition.
Results
Look to our web site for nightly posting of results in addition to full
coverage from Joe Zauner from NW Race Report. We will also post the
prologue start list one week prior to the event on the web site at
www.mthoodcyclingclassic.com
We are looking forward to another great year and I hope all of you can join
us. The courses look good and the community of Hood River is excited to see
all the riders back to compete again (especially the crit). This event is
also a great tune up for the Elkhorn Classic and Cascade Classic in late
June and July. Two amazing Oregon Races with spectacular beauty.
Sincerely,
Chad Sperry
