River City Bicycles presents: The Barlow Trail Century
Sunday, June 27, 2004.
Save the date: Sunday, June 27, 2004. That's when River City Bicycles kicks off its first annual " Barlow Trail Century. Fellow OBRA riders, this is one bike ride you don't want to miss!
Routes:
Bicyclists will have two beautiful routes to choose from: a mostly flat, 40-mile spin, or a challenging, hilly, and scenic 100-miler. Both routes start at Club Paesano's Cedarville, conveniently located right on the Springwater Corridor Trail, just west of beautiful downtown Gresham. The 40-mile loop takes you out the Springwater Corridor Trail, through Dodge Park, over the Sandy River, up to the Lake Roslyn rest stop, and return.
Challenge yourself with the 100-mile option, and you'll continue east after the Lake Roslyn rest stop, climb the "Devil's Backbone," pedal through Little Switzerland, summit Lolo Pass on the southwestern foothills of Mt. Hood (Rest Stop #2 is located at the Lolo Pass summit), and then enjoy a fast, smooth, winding descent back down the mountainside to the Roslyn Lake rest stop and then return to the finish line. Both routes use mostly quiet, rural roads and paved forest roads with very little auto traffic.
Ride Support:
There will be full mechanic support at the start/finish line, and at both rest stops. A motorized mobile repair unit will be out patrolling the route during the event.
Food & Entertainment:
All riders will enjoy delicious food catered by Laughing Planet and a funky, post-ride dance party to the retro rock & roll sounds of Six Finger, with River City Bicycles' owner Dave Guettler on bass. Registered riders over age 21 will also receive a token good for one free beer at the finish line, courtesy of Lucky Lab Brewpub, after the ride.
Demo Bikes:
A limited number of brand-new, high-end road bikes from Seven Cycles, Specialized, and Litespeed will be available for registered riders to use on event day. These demo bikes need to be reserved in advance. For more info on bike models, sizes, and availability, contact River City Bicycles' Bike Manager Dylan Herbert, c/o promo-@rivercitybicycles.com.
Registration:
You can register for this wonderful ride here at the bike shop (River City Bicycles) or online at www.orbike.com.
Cost:
$35 before June 21; $45 after June 21; $50 day of event.
The Good Cause:
The Barlow Trail Century is a fund-raiser for b.i.k.e. (Bicycles and Ideas for Kids' Empowerment), a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization based here in Portland, Ore. "b.i.k.e. helps to develop the values and life skills essential for productive citizenship in inner-city youth through bicycling, tutoring, year-round mentoring, and leadership training." The basic registration cost of the Barlow Trail Century is not tax deductible; however, you can make an additional gift to b.i.k.e., above and beyond your registration fee. That additional gift would be tax deductible.
