The weather man is calling for high 70's in the Willamette valley during the
day Tuesday which is sure to heat up the racing scene for the last Tuesday
Night Eugene Hill Climb.
Remember after the event we will be at Track Town Pizza located at 1809
Franklin Blvd to hand out awards and the raffle items. We have a Renn Time
Trial Disc Wheel, a Burley Nomad Trailer and a set of Profile Aero Bars to
give away for the raffle and plenty of other swag from Paul's, Wheelworks
and Hutch's bike shops. I am also looking at a couple special prizes for the
fastest time, improved time and best sport for the series, maybe Pizza and
Beer:)
As for series standings we have some close racing happening in several
fields. Last week Billy Truelove of Hutch's racing team posted the time to
beat at 11:12. I have heard of faster from previous years but no-one has
come up with the times.
In the Cat 1/2 field Nick Skenzick of Hutch's and Seth Wilkie of Hayden
Frontier are still close with only 2 points separating them. The entire 1/2
field is made up of Hutch's and Hayden Frontier except for Omer Kem of
Broadmark Capital. Zac Houghton of Hayden Frontier and Brian Mitchell of
Hutch's are in 3rd and 4th and should hold those positions.
The Cat 3 field looks all wrapped up for Richard Sweet of Paul's Bicycle Way
of Life as Derek Darves of Collins Cycle didn't show last week. With him not
showing up Jason Thorpe of UofO Cycling moved up into 2nd overall. Erick
Kytola of Hutch's is within striking distance of the top 3 if he pulls out a
good ride. If not Ben West of Collins and Martin Holland-Bak of Hutch's are
both ready to take over. No matter how it ends up this has been a hotly
contested field.
The 30+ saw Cameron Bittle of EWEB Windpower jump in front of Matt Ritzow of
Paul's Bicycle Way of Life when Matt didn't show up tot he start line. Alex
Lehnert of EWEB Windpower continued his dominating performance and should
have the series won as long as he makes it to the start line.
With a couple good rides Boyd Piebenga has moved with in striking distance
of Martin Anderson of the UofO Cycling team and Joe King who set tied on
points on top of the 4/5 field. All Boyd has to do is place 3 spots in front
of either one to earn enough points. Not as easy as it seems since Joe King
has been posting some really fast times. Next in line are John Barry and
Damien Kruziki of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life. Damien needs to stay alert
though as Ryan Conrad of UofO Cycling is only 3 points behind and could pull
out a stellar performance to overtake the top 5 spot. By far the biggest
field that has scene a wide variety of times over the past 3 weeks, who will
pull it all together this week and take the weekly win.
After missing 2 of the Flat TT's do to rainy weather Roger Johnson of River
City Wheelman has stayed consistent throughout the hill climb series to wrap
up 2nd place behind Mark Logan of Hutch's. As long as roger shows up tonight
then it should remain 1-2 with Dan Henderson of Hutch's in 3rd and Mark
Armstrong of EWEB Windpower and Billy Ramsey taking 4th and 5th. Of course
John Parsons, Tom Field of EWEB Windpower and Bary Foster of Wheelworks are
all just 1-3 points behind. Mark needs to stay steady and fly up the hill or
he might just loose the top 5 placing.
The Women's cat 4 field is another one that appears to be wrapped up by Erin
Luckhardt. She has won each week and hold an 8 point lead over Beatriz
Sunderland-White. Jaini Crawford of EWEB Windpower got with in 14 seconds of
the win last week, if she can pull that plus a few more seconds she could
take the win for the week. Lauren May has been consistent for each event and
should take 4th overall while Candy Walker of Paul's Bicycle Way of Life
should take 5th as long as she makes it to the start line this week.
With 1-2 riders in most of the other fields we shouldn't see any changes
unless someone new shows up and wins the week.
Next week starts the Twilight Crit series with pack racing returning to the
Eugene area every Tuesday night until the end of August. June also sees a
