The only death that we have had at a race in Oregon was at a road race for
the beginners. It involved the centerline. I do not want to ever be at
another one.

Racers in the cat 4 field have been much better about not crossing over the
centerline. It happens unintentionally sometimes when the field slows down
and more racers are trying to fit in the same space, but I have noticed
racers making a conscious effort to get back right away when this happens.
Even this can be avoided if we anticipate the slow down effect.
On the other hand, unfortunately there are a handful of racers that are
deliberately riding on and over the centerline to advance up in the field.
This is, of course, very unsafe and unfair. We all need to learn how to move
up in the field without violating the centerline rule! (read "Racing Tactics
for Cyclists" by Thomas Prehn. Great resource for road racers) The state RR
course had the most cars traveling in the opposite lane I have seen this
year. We really had to pay attention. The cones on the right hand corner was
a good idea. It forced us to stay in one lane and not swing out as much.
Also, some knucklehead tossed their empty water bottle off into the bushes
on the last lap! We were not even near the finish line where someone could
retrieve it! The race referee saw this and scolded the field. Don't do that!
Put it in your pocket! This is not the Giro! (I can't believe how much trash
the pros toss on the side of the road!)

feeding errors in the Cat 4 race on Sunday. If there are representatives
