I would suggest Sauvies Island except I think the cycle hatred out there is

partly due to a few bicycler types hogging the road 2 & 3 wide while

whistling the "knapsack" song.

Portland is supposed to be the most cycle friendly city in the United

States. If anybody needs a share the road campagne, it's Boston.

Who pays for this stuff anyway? We can't buy body armour for police dogs

but we can put up "share the road" billboards?

I happened to speak with an ad agency today (R-West) that is gearing up

(harrrr) to run a "share the road" ad campaign in the Portland metro area.



The woman I spoke with was quite interested in my suggestion that the

billboards be placed not in the usual areas (i.e. along Grand Ave, downtown,

etc.) where, IMO, the riding is not bad, but instead in more problem areas.



Oregon City came to mind. That's a part of the town that I've had more than

a few negative experiences, especially out along River Road. Same goes for

much of southern Clackamas County.



I'd be interested -- and more than happy to compile a list to return to

R-West -- in hearing what you all think are some of the other major problem

areas around town.
