The Summer Ride Fest



Time To Ride



When: July 15th and 18th, 2004



Where: Oakridge, Oregon







Hosted by Paul's Bicycle Way of Life Cycling Team and The Disciples Of Dirt

Mountain Bike Club.







This is your chance to get together with friends from all over the northwest

and beyond. Enjoy some of the best riding Oregon and the Northwest have to

offer. Be it Mountain Bike, Road Bike, Freeride or Downhill Oakridge has it.

The Mountain and Road bike tours will all be guided and supported by local

riders.



For the Freeride and Downhill rides Willamette Pass is a short 30 minute

drive, we may have an outdoor Free Ride park in place, watch for more

information to follow.







No matter your taste or your ability we have put together a collection of

awesome rides for the weekend to meet everyone's needs. Then on Saturday

night sit back and relax with your fellow riders, have a burrito, tell

stories about the ride and enjoy the local commodore between cyclists from

all over.







This year we will also be offering a Beginner Mountain bike clinic and ride

on Saturday.

The Ultra, a 60 plus mile adventure, Time to Climb but get ready for your

reward with miles of awesome singletrack descending.



The Classic, 35-mile quest with great singletrack trail, enjoy the climbs,

the views and the descents.



The Elementary Ride, an 18-mile group style ride, take all day and enjoy

some beautiful singletrack.



The Apprentice Ride, Morning Mountain Bike Clinic and then 10 miles of easy

to moderate trail with experience guides to answer all your questions.







Sunday: 9:00AM at Trailhead Coffee House



Hone up on your technical skills and get ready for a fun adventure down the

Bunchgrass trail, with a combination of fast singletrack, un-rideable

switchbacks and cliff side singletrack where you loose 100' in elevation in

100' of trail, this is a true test of ones skills. 20 miles of excellent

riding from Bunchgrass Mtn down to Oakridge with an elevation gain of 2500'

and loss of 4000'. This ride is only open to the intermediate rider and

above.



For a mellower finish to the weekend join the group out for a casual group

ride on either Larison Creek or Larison Rock trails, while these rides has

some climbing you will be rewarded with some great singletrack and a dip in

the creek.















Road Bike Rides



Saturday: Aufderheide Scenic Byway.



Red Covered Bridge in Westfir: 8:00AM-10:00AM



With a 100k and 200k option, Riders can challenge themselves with a long

gradual climb followed by a short steep climb through classic old growth

national forest on a quiet 2 lane road.







Westfir marks the beginning of the Aufderheide National Forest Scenic Byway

(Forest Service Road 19), we will start and finish at the 180-foot Office

Bridge, Oregon's longest covered bridge. Then follow the "Wild and Scenic"

North Fork of the Middle Fork of the Willamette through The Gorge, a

twisting canyon lined with 1,000-foot-high rocks with a rest stop at

Constitution Grove, a 200-year-old-growth forest, before a challenging 2

mile climb up to Box Canyon. Where the turn around point for the Metric

Century will be, as well as a second rest stop.







If you continue on to the 200k Mark, you will be rewarded with a fun, fast,

twisty descent along the South Fork of the McKenzie River turning into a

rolling route along Cougar Reservoir to Cougar Dam with a final descent down

to Delta Campground and the 100k mark and the turnaround point, with a rest

stop. For the return trip home be ready for a challenging climb back up from

Delta Campground. Make sure to watch for Deer, Elk, and the occasional

Oregon Bobcat as the road ascends back along Cougar Reservoir and the South

Fork of the McKenzie River back to Box Canyon. The descent back into Westfir

is rolling but mostly downhill along the North Fork of the Middle Fork of

the Willamette River.







Downhill and Freeride Park (The park is pending approval-check before

coming)



Spend the day at Willamette Pass on their new downhill runs. Push yourself

to new speeds, get major air and hangout with your friends. Then at The

Westfir Outpost challenge yourself or your friends to some North Shore style

freeriding. This non-competition playground will be open at 3:00PM and open

to all riders willing to huck themselves towards the earth. The cost to

enter the park will be $5.00. Then stick around to see the best of the

Willamette Valley put on a Freeride show and show everyone how it is done.







Trek Demo



This year we will also have the Trek Bicycle Demo fleet available. This is

your option to come out and check out the bikes and talk to Trek about your

options. You will be able to ride them under real riding conditions. Both

road and mountain bikes will be available.







The racing Scene: The Mountain Bike State Championships in Oakridge are the

same weekend.

Camping & Staging area



Staging & Camping with showers at The Westfir Outpost approximately 10

minutes from Oakridge. From I-5 take hwy 58 East for approx. 35 miles and

turn south on LaDuke Road. Follow LaDuke Road approximately 3 miles to The

Westfir Outpost on the right. From East of Oakridge take hwy 58 approx. 4

miles west of Oakridge and turn on LaDuke Road and head for The Westfir

Outpost. Approximate travel from Eugene, 45 minutes.







Ride information: All rides will be minimally marked with ribbon, there will

be maps available. All riders should be able to find a suitable pace between

lead and sweep guides. Weather can vary this time of year from hot and dry

to cold and rainy, BE PREPARED. There will be water and snacks available for

all rides. There are few bail-out options so be prepared to go the distance

without the support if needed.

Road</st1:address></st1:Street> and head for The Westfir Outpost. Approximate
