I know Mike's message was supposed to be the last word, but...



I think it was totally inappropriate and irresponsible to introduce this issue to the OBRA forum. Whatever the situation may have been, it should have been resolved privately. I'm disappointed to see it dealt with on the internet in front of hundreds of strangers. I hope this never happens to me.

The wheel that was taken for the OBRA neutral wheel program has been

returned. It did require that Roger Banvard do the yeoman's task of driving

to Eugene in order to get the wheel as Mr. Wilkie was not willing to release

it until his personal wheel was returned. Mr. Wilkie has told me that he

has not been reading e-mail due to a computer malfunction. I assume that he

also has not been reading the messages to ob-@topica.com. This likely

means that he was not aware of his racing suspension, which was delivered

first by e-mail, until he was told be someone who has been reading the

ob-@topica.com or until he received the letter notifying him. OBRA rules

do require notification of suspension in writing. Mr. Wilkie has claimed

that a telephone call was all that was needed to straighten this out but

Candi did speak with him personally at the Mt Hood stage race and Brian

Witty has told me he made several attempts to contact him by phone.

Regardless, attempts at personal communication failed to get the wheel back

but the racing suspension and publication of the issue did manage to

accomplish it. Roger Banvard deserves another big round of thanks for

effort above and beyond in managing the wheel program, something that he

refuses to take any payment for. As for Mr. Wilkie he has made good the

debt and we should leave him alone.
