Piranha Relay 100 mi MTB race???

Hi all,

The deadline for registration is today. Apparently "Saturday" was the

typo and not the date.

In any event, I spoke with Kip and he sounded like you could work

something out if you wanted to race and haven't yet registered -

obviously, it is just last minute registrations make things a bit more

logistically challenging for the promoter.

categories, just "open".

Who is promoting it? Where, when, or how does one learn about it??? I

don't know if anyone else out there has even heard about this event. I

know I haven't seen any flyers or word of it, and I would consider

myself kind of an "in-the-know" person when it comes to oregon mtb'ing.

Reading the race website schedule, it says that the deadline to

register

is "saturday july 1st 2004"... Isn't today (thursday) the first of

July?

Any OBRA members out there that have more information, it would be

great

to share that to the list! Thanks.

Hail Drew -

Thanks for your interest in the PIRANHA RELAY, and especially in the solo

team category.

I have been asked this question by a few people over the past several

months, and I am grateful for your approach. Our goal is to provide more

than just a race; we want to provide an experience for all of the riders.

That is why we've created so many team and category options, with cash

prizes awarded to each. We've designed cool and unique medals, awards,

t-shirts, and trophies. Our checkpoints are fully staffed and provide

supplies and medical support. And finally, we've created a scenic and

challenging racecourse, available only during this race series.

In order to reward the efforts of the single riders, we offer a more

comprehensive awards package than we do for the larger teams. All single

riders receive:

Entrant's T-Shirt

Finisher's T-Shirt

Finisher's Medal (Custom Crafted)

Belt Buckle (two different sizes related to finishing time) Custom Crafted

Winners from each category receive a $500 cash prize, and have the

opportunity to take all prize money from that category if they have the

fastest time.

Custom Crafted Trophies for all categories

Also, in an effort to give back to the communities helping with the race

series, proceeds are donated to the following charities:

Warm Springs Recreation Department (Tribal Youth Related)

Warm Springs Boys and Girls Club (Tribal Youth Related)

Inter-Tribal Basketball Tournament (Tribal Youth Related)

Scott McQueeny Memorial Fund (Cancer Related)

Boy Scouts of America (Youth Related)

After attending Leadville Bike 100 last year as volunteer, and seeing its

beginning 10 years ago, we are offering a challenging race for the same

cost. Granted we have about half the elevation to challenge riders, but we

but we do have terrain and desert heat.

I am not sure if this has answered your question? I do appreciate your

inquiry - please let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Kip Buck

Race Director

A few of us in Bend are interested in the race but is the price right for

the solo teams...That seems so high compared to the teams. Let me know if I

am reading it right? If it was about half I think I have 4 guys who would

be

doing it.

Thanks
