Hey all (including Rude Dog),
I wouldn't support silencing anyone on this list unless they were continually
saying outright offensive things and directing personal attacks at those who
disagree with them. In your original post, however, you brought up several
sensitive points to which many people (including me) felt they must respond.
George's original post (it was George, right?) concerned a piece of
legislation which might well directly affect development and land access for many
mountain bikers. It was therefore relevant to the list. If anyone chooses to
expand that discussion, they obviously do so at their own risk. Obviously, risk
in this case refers to overflowing email boxes, with possible personal
attacks thrown in by the more emotional.

Seriously, when one tosses out opinions on driving and open-space issues on a
bicycling group, wouldn't you expect a response? There's nothing wrong with
a little good debate. Just remember to separate the opinion from the
person. Americans aren't always good about this sort of thing, hence the usual
family prohibitions on political discussion at the dinner table. Most other
cultures have a more open forum on debate, maybe we could learn from them...
