The tourists probably won't see this anyway (the challenge to hit
65mph).
That may be a bad challenge for most cycle Oregon participants in that
this could be the only "big" ride some of those participants do, meaning
that they will be utilizing a limited cycling skill-set, plus they will
be physically & mentally tired. I recall Cycle Oregon stories from the
year when it rained on the last day with a big technical descent and
they used all the ambulances in the vicinity to pick up the casualties
as they stacked it up in the turns.

I just got back from my annual Ride the Rim at Crater Lake. The descent
of Scott Bluff is fun, I easily hit 62 and could have gone faster if
those darn rv's weren't in the way but it is sure fun passing them. I
know this isn't local but Cycle Oregon will experience it next month. I
challenge anyone to go 65.

comes off of Pete's Mtn down into Willamette. That can be very fast.

more houses on the road has removed some of the abandon with which you
could
approach it, but it's still very fun to see if you can keep your
fingers
off
the brake levers.
It's more "fun" to go up it (though today it felt like my fingers were
on
the brake levers...)
It IS a fast downhill mile+. It's got just enough blind curves to make
it
interesting. I've only been down it a few times...I'm not sure if I
could
let gravity completely have its way there! :-) I've not seen any loose
dogs, but there are a couple of off-stage barkers at the bottom.
