Busted Bicycle Riders

Luciano

2004-09-02

As a ex-marine mine was not to question the motives of politicians only to

serve as they order. In vietnam era many men sacrificed there lives in the

name of LBJ's drug trade I don't think the people or congressmen not

involved in the trade voted for these men to make a sacrifice in the name of

greed but it happened.

To think our entire Congress voted for a war in Iraq simply over oil is

remarkable. I guess we are all culpable, as I am unaware of anyone on

this

forum who does not use oil, or oil related products and our elected

representatives voted for the war on our behalf. To think these fine men

and women in uniform are leaving their families, jobs, and perhaps losing

their lives so that we may have more oil is unbearable.

Perhaps we should impeach Congress?

Easy not all of us critical massers are morons nor are cival rights

protesters, or anti war demonstrators the truth of the matter is the

infringement for me is daily I am forced to breathe the emissions of others

who no longer need just transportation but social statements and rolling

entertainment centers so if the who petroleum sucking world has to pause for

a minute it's ok by me.By the way at the cost of one US soldier per day

since the start of the Iraq Oil Takeover and you thought gas prices where

high.

Ed said: "Of course, there have been times when content neutral

restrictions have been found to have been found to be justified, but your

statement that the first amendment does not protect "PROTEST" is downright

stupid."

Actually, Ed, your inability to read a post without responding emotionally

is STUPID, but typical of a reactionary. Please read my post again and

tell me where I said the first amendment does not protect protest. Here is

what I said;

"BTW, in case anyone intends to respond with the BS line of "it's our right

to protest;" please don't be so ignorant. Our First Amendment right is to

peaceably assemble, not PROTEST, or infringe upon other people's rights."

Even in your own examples, the word "protest" doesn't appear. I suppose

you also believe we live in a democracy?

The fact is, WE DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO PROTEST. WE POSSES A RIGHT TO

PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. DOES THAT MEAN THAT ONE CAN PEACEFULLY PROTEST? SURE

BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE OUR RIGHT A "RIGHT TO PROTEST" NOR IMPEDE TRAFFIC, OR

HIT SOMEONE YOU DON'T AGREE WITH LIKE SO MANY "PROTESTERS" APPARENTLY

BELIEVE.

The reason using phrases like "right to protest" is so STUPID and dangerous

is because people like the critical mass morons decide that "protest" means

aggressive in your face behavior which it clearly does not.

Just an observation, "filling-up bandwidth" is similar to critical mass.

In the sense that it's antisocial method grabs attention away from

traditional protest and political action. In my opinion, critical mass

is self serving, counter productive and hurts me as a cyclist.

Actually, I have been too busy to race this year as I am trying to get Ralph

Nader on the ballot in Oregon. It has been very difficult with so much

"Democrat democracy" going on. Did you know Ralph rides mountain bikes too,

only he doesn't crash as much as Bush and Kerry.

Well, it's easy enough to block e-mails from individuals that you find

either objectionable or just plain irritating for whatever reason. In

Outlook, just create a rule and have Outlook delete the message as soon as

it arrives. You have to have the person in your personal address book to do

this but that's easy too. Just right click on the sender's name and click

Add to Personal Address Book.

Steps:

Add sender to personal address book

Click on Tools/Rules Wizard

Click New

In the Rule Description portion of the window, click the People or

Distribution List link

Select Personal Address Book from the Show Names from Drop down list

Click Next

Click Next

Click the delete it check box in the What do you want to do with the message

list

When you click Next, a message box will pop up telling you a Value in the

Rule Description has not been set

Click OK

Click Back

Click Next

Uncheck the move it to the specified folder item

Click Next

Click Next

Click Finish

Click OK

Now, you'll never even know when the objectionable or irritating messenger

sends out another one of their loud, boisterous messages.

So much for freedom of speech eh? Yes, they do still have freedom of speech,

if you call yelling in an empty tunnel freedom of speech. Yippee for modern

technology.

Hey "snjr"   Do you have a name or do you just not want to link your OBRA

posts to your name.

I must say I'm amazed how many people tonight at PIR were talking about who

is "snjr" that's writting all these emails.

Come on let people know who "snjr" is.

Oh and BTW if you need some help setting your email up so it shows your name

when you send emails, I am sure there are lots of us that can help you.

snjr wrote:

Ed said: "Of course, there have been times when content neutral restrictions

have been found to have been found to be justified, but your statement that

the first amendment does not protect "PROTEST" is downright stupid."

Actually, Ed, your inability to read a post without responding emotionally

is STUPID, but typical of a reactionary. Please read my post again and tell

me where I said the first amendment does not protect protest. Here is what

I said;

I suppose you

also believe we live in a democracy?

The fact is, WE DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO PROTEST. WE POSSES A RIGHT TO

PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. DOES THAT MEAN THAT ONE CAN PEACEFULLY PROTEST? SURE

BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE OUR RIGHT A "RIGHT TO PROTEST" NOR IMPEDE TRAFFIC, OR

Dan. You are confusing the issue. First the statement was that the first amendment doesn't protect protest. That is patently wrong.

Yours is a slightly different issue, alluded to in my last paragraph regarding the ability of government to place limited restraints on protest. But, as noted in the opinion cited, the governments right to even require a permit is limited. And, surprise, surprise, there are plenty of instances where the government has been found to have exceeded those limits.

Rude Dog. It is your ignorance of your own constitution that's stunning. One of the principal purposes of the first amendment is precisely to protect the right to "PROTEST". You may recall that one of the major complaints of the colonists was the lack of ability to protest. (You have heard of the Boston Tea Party haven't you?)

Even an arch conservative such as Sandra Day O'Connor would disagree with you, stating, as she does for the majority in Boos vs. Barry 485 U.S. 312 (1988) overturning a law banning protests within 500 feet of a foreign embassy:

". . .   the First Amendment reflects a "profound national commitment" to the principle that "debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open," New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U. S. 254, 270 (1964), and have consistently commented on the central importance of protecting speech on public issues. See, e. g., Connick v. Myers, 461 U. S. 138, 145 (1983); NAACP v. Claiborne Hardware Co., 458 U. S. 886, 913 (1982); Carey v. Brown, supra, at 467. This has led us to scrutinize carefully any restrictions on public issue picketing. See, e. g., United States v. Grace, 461 U. S. 171 (1983); Carey v. Brown, supra; Police Department of Chicago v. Mosley, 408 U. S. 92 (1972).

". . . such speech on public streets and sidewalks, [are] traditional public fora that "time out of mind, have been used for purposes of assembly, communicating thoughts between citizens, and discussing public questions." Hague v. CIO, 307 U. S. 496, 515 (1939) (Roberts, J.). HN2In such places, which occupy a "special position in terms of First Amendment protection," United States v. Grace, 461 U. S., at 180, the government's ability to restrict expressive activity "is very limited." Id., at 177.

Of course, there have been times when content neutral restrictions have been found to have been found to be justified, but your statement that the first amendment does not protect "PROTEST" is downright stupid.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, in case anyone intends to respond with the BS line of "it's our right to protest;" please don't be so ignorant. Our First Amendment right is to peaceably assemble, not PROTEST, or infringe upon other people's rights.

It's popular:

"A crowd three blocks deep gathered around the protesters last night, chanting, "Let them go!" as a helicopter hovered overhead."

...but making traffic jams isn't going to win many devotees to the cause of cycling.

I consider myself to be a "critical mass" every time I ride--even as a solo user of the road, trying to make it look fun and practical.

Ooops! I guess in Manhattan if you intentionally break the law by slowing traffic consequently jeopardizing emergency services and other citizen's rights you may go to jail.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/story/226516p-194587c.html

Last count 264; good time to be a bike lawyer!

Too bad cities like Portland and Eugene refuse to enforce the laws and put these dopes in jail.

BTW, in case anyone intends to respond with the BS line of "it's our right to protest;" please don't be so ignorant. Our First Amendment right is to peaceably assemble, not PROTEST, or infringe upon other people's rights.

Dog, thanks for bringing this up. Lawless fanatics like Critical Mass make

the rest of us suffer the rath of un-educated motorists that can't tell the

diffrence between someone riding to work and someone that just hates "big

oil".

Vera the police chauffeured mayor needs to grow a pair and enforce the law.

(donning my asbestos now...)
