I say this because my postings include my complete identity, but

yours let you remain anonymous, so while plenty of folks out there are

wasting their time by posting my thoughts to the list, people who

disagree with you have no clue who you are.

I hope this makes sense. I'm not trying to be confrontational about

themselves, our discussions on OBRA will be better off for it.

THIS IS PRECISELY MY POINT! Protesting as you are describing it (and as has

become the standard definition of a protest) is nothing more than breaking

the law! There is no right in the Bill of Rights to commit felonies or

break the law. Permits are for law abiding citizens who have the common

courtesy and respect for their fellow citizens to "PROTEST" within the

confines of the law.

Because people have changed the terminology and manipulated our actual right

"peaceably assemble", we have a large populace who believe they have the

right to block traffic, keep people from their jobs and businesses,

vandalize property, burn buildings and vehicles, etc. etc. Poor law

enforcement has further encouraged this belief. We do not have these rights

folks. The U.S. Constitution was written literally to "insure domestic

tranquility." How does breaking the law equate to tranquility?

To sin by silence when they should PROTEST makes cowards of men. - Abraham

Lincoln

I think President Lincoln was referring to the old definition of protest

which is "to express strong objection". That is remarkably different than

the definition of protest used today, e.g. silence verses expressing your

view, not silence verses anarchy.

Why can't we have a discussion without throwing out the words (or letters)

BS and stupid just because someone doesn't adhere to your point of view. It

doesn't help your point of view.

Protesting is a right. By protesting you also have the right to be arrested

and should expect to be. Getting a permit to protest is not protesting,

especially if you are protesting the system that is currently in place.

Permits are for parades, not protests.

Don't get me wrong, I am not for the destruction of property, but if your

commute was extended a whole 20-30 minutes once a week, oh well, take mass

transit on Fridays and the critical massers will get through the city much

faster.

In fact what a marketing tool for downtown businesses. Instead of Happy

Hour, have Critical Mass hour, free appetizers with a beverage and avoid the

Massers, rather than sitting in traffic.

Direct confrontation is what some of them are looking for. If they are not

confronted, they will get bored and stop.

And if the BTP participants were caught, they probably would have been

hanged.

If the hooded and masked clowns at crital mass rallies

wouldn't show who they are why should SNJR say who he

is?
