Randy,
Please correct me if I'm mistaken on this, but this thread started on
discussions of Gorge protection legislation. While educated persons do
disagree over what is the best policy for achieving various goals, are
you seriously suggesting that land use planning is not even _relevant_
to cycling? My point is that Richard Randleman's clanking about was a
response to a "bicycle related" post, not a "non-bike" post as you
seem to be saying.
To everyone who has written in support of Oregon's land use planning
laws, I want to thank you for expressing those sentiments publicly.
Sometimes in the past I've gotten the impression here that I'm in a
minority for racing _and_ thinking that bicycles are a force for
positive societal change.

As for the Gorge...if your a bike rider just remember
what happened in the end with the Mt Hood
Wilderness...we will NOT be able to ride parts of that
anymore...The ONRC pushed for Wilderness protection
when if all they wanted to do was stop logging..they
could have pushed for a "rec zone" and had the same
out come, but we still could have enjoyed the area,
but no they want to lock it out to all...remember
that!
