Dan Feiner
Hi all: I've got a couple of gear questions I'm hoping someone can help me
with. I've been using Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Centaur hubs on my
cyclo-cross bike. The cassette is a 13-29. Today on a whim I mounted road
tires on the wheels and tried them out on my road bike. First thing I
noticed is that my tires, new Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CXs, mounted much
easier on the Mavic rims then on the Campy Protons I normally have on my
road bike. First question: Does easy mounting correspond with increased
chances of the tire coming off the rim at an inopportune time (like coming
down a hill). Second question: My Chorus short cage derailleur handled the
29 tooth cog just fine even though Campy seems to say it shouldn't. Has
anyone had any experience with this and am I jeopardizing the derailleur in
any way. I can't imagine being in the 29 to much but I'm trying to "be like
Lance" and spin up some hills. Thanks in advance for your info. Dan
