1000 miles of Base? On fixed?

Riding 1000 miles in the winter, keeping heart rate zone 1-2 max, is

that the gold standard of base training? I really want to ride a lot of

fixed this winter, but with the hills here in Hood River half of my

riding would be cadence 50 - 70, aren't you supposed to keep cadence

high in this early base period? Drop the gearing to less than 63", or

don't ride fixed until the later base periods? Or stay off of hills for

the 1000 miles. I might be able to find a 5 mile route with no hills,

and do 10 - 20 laps...



Last year I did sprint intervals at least once a week November through

January, looking back I don't think that was in my best

interests...Trying to be a little smarter with winter training this

year.
