If you own a Kryptonite U-lock read this

Rumor: Kryptonite U-locks are vulnerable to "picking" with a standard

Bic ballpoint pen.

Facts: Being curious, I just called Kryptonite's customer service

line. The representative was very helpful. She said that this is a

problem for some locks and not others. She said they just found out

about this on September 13th and that they are currently working hard

to determine precisely which locks this is a problem for and what

their solution will be.

She said that if you have a lock that is vulnerable, they will be

replacing it. At least, that was my understanding, but she was very

helpful and honest and it sounds like Kryptonite is definitely

planning on fixing this problem as soon as possible.

She took my name and phone number and said that I would get a call

back as soon as they figured out exactly what was going on and what

they were going to do.

I'll let everyone know what I find out. If you don't want to receive

further email from me on this, please let me know.

Matthew

Since every other cycling listserve I am on is in mass post mode on

this, I found it refreshing not to see OBRA Chat on the bandwagon :)

I was able to open my Kryptonite Evolution 2000 in about 1 minute

using the barrel of a BIC Soft Grip. Once you get it, it's amazingly

easy to do.
