Could we start checking general bicycle repair before we line the
juniors up to determine if they are using 13 tooth rear cogs? I have
been in far too many races that featured:
* bikes without bar end plugs (vivisection anyone?)
* bikes with pumps
* bikes with fenders
* dangerously worn tires
* loose bars
* loose cranks
I don't even want to think about poorly glued tubulars, skipping gears,
worn out brakes, cracked stems and other such problems.
Before we get hot and bothered about whether 53x13 is a reasonable gear,
I think we should concern ourselves with determining whether our bikes
are safe. This applies to everyone!
We already have equipment rules that aren't followed. Do we really need
more?
