Yes, thanks to the officials! I did a Seattle based race this year and

we didn't get results for those of us in the pack. It's really nice to

see where you are even when it isn't at the front.

I agree. Also, I think that fact partially accounts for the large

turnout. In road racing, I have seen many people get dropped and ride

hard to finish, only ask the officials what their place was, and be

disappointed that their finish was not recorded. Often you do not see

those people returning. In running and tri events everyone gets

recorded, and failure to do so often discourages those racers who are

not able to stay with the pack. I am not suggesting that we further

burden officials in road racing, as it is difficult enough to determine

the top 15, particularly if there is more than one field on the course.

I am only pointing out that it does seem to be a factor with respect to

participation.
