Cyclocross Tire Opinions

Any of those should be fine for you. The Twister Pro's have got some really

good bite for the really sloppy stuff. The Jets are nice on all but those

conditions. Don't have any experience with anything else.

I think if it's a cross specific tire, you'll be fine. When you move out of

beginner you'll have more of an idea as to what your tastes and riding style

require, and perhaps more justification for spending more.

Hello there Obra-land,

I'm a cyclocross beginner this year and I am in the market for some new

tires for this season. I've looked at the Michelin Jets' the Ritchey

Speedmax's and the Ritchey Excavader 700's. I've also heard good things

about the Continental Twister Pro's.

I'm looking for a little advice from any other CCX'ers out there about

tires they've had good experiences with. I'm looking for good mud

clearance and resistance to pinch flats expecially at low PSI's.

Thanks for the help!

Since you have clincher wheels, THE tire for pinch flat resistance is

the Tufo tubular clincher. They don't come cheap ... you can get the

Prestiges for a bit under $60 per wheel. I ran them in sloppy races

last year and they shed mud well, hook up fine, and you can run them at

really low pressure. If you only race on them, they can last a couple

of seasons. I'd say the only drawback is that the widest available is a

30mm.

This year I have Tufo tubies on my race bike and Tufo tubular clinchers

(from last year) on my pit bike.

Tufos rock.
