Bike/Walk PAC Endorses

Liberty, Adams, Potter, No on 37

Do you care about bicycling and walking?

The single most important thing you can do to help Portland, and

Oregon, become more biking- and walking-friendly is to support elected

officials who support biking and walking. If we have the right people

in office, it's a lot easier to ensure that the right decisions will be

made.

That's why I'm helping out with a new political action committee

focusing on bicyclists and pedestrians, and we hope to tip the November

election in favor of Robert Liberty, Sam Adams, and Tom Potter.

Formed in August 2004, Bike/Walk PAC?s mission is to elect local and

statewide candidates who support bicycling and walking in Oregon.

Using an in-depth endorsement questionnaire and research on the

candidates' records, Bike/Walk PAC has endorsed Robert Liberty for

Metro Council, Sam Adams for Portland City Council and Tom Potter for

Portland Mayor. The PAC also opposes Measure 37, which would decrease

funding for trails and other investments in cycling and walking.

At least three, if not all four, of these races are very close -- and

if we can get our message out to a few thousand people, we could be the

difference. We?re already seeing candidates talk more about biking

issues than they did before they received our questionnaire.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Give money. Contributions help us reach out to voters and elect

pro-bike, pro-walk candidates. Donations to Bike/Walk PAC are eligible

for Oregon?s Political Tax Credit, which allows Oregonians to give $50

to a PAC and get it all back on their taxes. For $50, we can print 1000

bike hangers. We accept credit cards or checks, visit

www.bikewalkpac.org to give.

Join us for visibility days. We're reaching out to bicyclists and

walkers on Portland bridges on Oct 22nd (4:30 to 6:30 pm) and Oct 29th

(7 to 9 am and 4:30 to 6:30pm).

Help distribute bike hangers. Small flyers attached to bicycles help

us directly reach cyclists about Bike/Walk PAC?s endorsements. This is

an ongoing project.

Volunteer for candidates on our candidate days. We're trying to help

Tom Potter on October 15th from 4:30 to 6:30, and Robert Liberty/No on

37 on October 19th from 6 to 9 pm. If these times don't work for you,

we'll connect you to the campaigns directly.
