Here are some suggestions for rules for this epic event:
+ junior gear limits in force; each rider must pass the wheel roll-out test
before the race (I recommend Phil Sanders to do this -- he's done it more
than anyone else alive)
+ standing start with holders -- no pushing!!
+ no cow horns or aero bars -- most juniors can't afford these.
+ no aero wheels, disc wheels, tri-spokes, zipp wheels -- same reason as
above.
+ no aero helmets (sorry Burney -- your old Bell or Giro? is too funky)
+ no aero shoe covers (too stupid)
+ release form must be signed by parent or adult guardian (Hey, Juniors have
to do it; perhaps Candi can sign for you guys -- she is afterall every bike
racer's mother).
+ no rubber suits -- after age 35, we know why.
Any other suggestions? Who's bringing cameras and video??

It is official: David Auker and Robert Burney will hold a challenge sprint
for charity and old times sake.
Why: Why not? Actually, Brad Gebhard stirred the pot and said David would
beat Robert. Things went from there and now it seems like fun to try to go
fast. Brad is also putting up 200 francs if Robert wins.
Location: After the New Year's Day Ride at Laurelhurst Park on 1/1/2001
Format: Straight line street sprint ending at the stairs to the house where
they serve the hot cider and cookies. If anyone has suggestions for another
format, send them in.
Several people have said they would pay to see this event. David and I have
agreed to donate all the money to Transition Projects (The mission of
Transition projects is to assist and advocate for people in Multnomah County
to meet their basic needs for shelter, food, clothing, physical and
emotional health). Robert can accept cash at the event, or you can send a
check (payable to Transition Projects) to the address below. All money from
the event goes to the charity.
