Lynette Chiang
Buenas tardes,
Thanks to all the folks (mainly guys I think ...) who emailed me and
said, "Are you doing a presentation in PDX?"
Some even invited me to come up and ride! This is true Cuban
hospitality chicos! I was starting to despair that everyone in 'merica
drives into their remote controlled 3-car garage, enters from the
inside and doesn't know their neighbor from a hole in the
ground....leading to excess consumption of Prozac, alcohol. therapy and
TV shopping ... ok, rewind.
Well, problem is bookstores think no-one will want to hear someone
speak about a book after about it's been out more than 2-3 months.
This is a sad fact of our throwaway society where we worship all that
is new and shiny, and a youth we all lose...
So, you can go read a sample opening to The Handsomest Man in Cuba on
Amazon, http://tinyurl.com/696bw
Also more excepts on http://www.galfromdownunder.com/cuba
I should mention your local bicycle adventurer Metal Cowboy wrote the
foreword to the book:
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/metal-cowboy-fwd
(I could mention he now rides a Bike Friday but then you'd think I was
trying to sell you a Bike Friday and I am not .. but I'll race you any
day on my Pocket Rocket Pro)
Then if you are into email activism, email these two gentlemen at
Powells and tell them I should come up from Eugene and address the
cycling fraternity in Portland:
Stephen Fidel (events guy) stev-@industrial.powells.com
Brian Doeter (special orders) bri-@burnside.powells.com
Then next time you happen to be in Powell's main store tell Brian
Doerter who sits at that desk up front you want to see my show.
He ordered the book, and is super nice to chat to!
Some folks asked to be kept informed of my travel news. Well, easiest
way is to join my Galfromdownunder YAHOO group which you can get to
from
http://www.galfromdownunder.com
Actually http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gfdu
Then I don't have to fiddle with Bcc lists etc.
Thanks for your nice responses. Off to Peru in a week, to ride the
Highest Paved Road in the World... 16,000 feet .. why did I say yes to
that...ah, so I can write another bedtime story ...

Mas tarde,
