The recommendation is to have fenders on your bike if it rains on

Saturday,

but don't worry, it rarely rains during our team rides!!!

Come out and meet the team for 2005: opportunity to join the Emerald

Velo bicycle racing team

October 23, Saturday: 10:00am

Location: River City Bicycles

706 SE MLK BLVD, Portland, Or

(ride to the meeting site, if possible; parking is

limited and our sponsor prefers that the lot be

kept open for store customers!!!)

Come out & meet the Emerald Velo Bicycle Club racing team, sponsored by

Huntair & River City Bicycles. Openings for memberships in this team for

competitive cyclists will be available in 2005; are you ready to get in

the pace-line and pull to the front? Finding the right team can be

beneficial to a cyclist, both those new to racing as well as seasoned

racers. The right fit can make the overall experience a positive one for

the individual, the team and the sponsor. Find out now if this team is

the one for you.

Development of competitive cyclists through early season base-training

in conjunction with riding/racing tips from experienced racers can help

you to excel in the sport, even as you contribute to the team and its

recognition in the cycling community.

With the preparation for the racing season happening from November

through February, teams should be riding together, putting in the base

miles and completing the training necessary to have race-ready fitness

for the early season races. To get the most from joining a team,

participating in the off-season training rides are of primary

importance. This allows team-mates to find their strengths and

weaknesses (and to work on those weaknesses). It also enables

strategies/techniques to be developed for riding in pace-lines,

attacking (or covering attacks) and assisting your team-mates to bridge

back up, as necessary, during races. Learning how to apply team

strategies and tactics in race season will enable you and the team to

have a successful, safe racing season. By joining a team early and

training with them, you will be developing your fitness at the same

time, and at the same rate, as your teammates, thus ensuring that you

will have peers with whom you will be racing.

This opportunity will be a sample of what is to come. Not every one is

right for the team, but you won't know until you check it out. This ride

of moderate distance will help you to make that choice. We will re-group

as necessary during the session.
