Subject: [shift] Community Cycling Center Opens in Vancouver, Washington
The Community Cycling Center will open a new Vancouver-based community
bicycle facility on November 16th, 2004. In an effort to bring bicycle
safety programs to Vancouver, Community Cycling Center will temporarily
inhabit a vacant space at 8040 E. Mill Plain Boulevard formerly occupied by
Dwell and owned by Wild Oats.
In December 2003, the Community Cycling Center provided 300 bicycles to
children from low-income families in Vancouver through the annual Holiday
Bike Drive. This heartwarming event led to a campaign to bring the
Community Cycling Center to Vancouver. Spearheaded by the Vancouver School
District Foundation with support from Todd Boulanger, Jennifer Campos and
other City of Vancouver staff, this major endeavor came to peak yesterday
when Wild Oats announced their donation of a facility.
What are unused bicycles doing in basements and garages throughout Vancouver
when they could be in the hands of eager children? Large groups of
volunteers are joining the Community Cycling Center in an effort to provide
bicycles to 1,000 children for the holidays. The Community Cycling Center
Vancouver is open every Tuesday from 4:00-8:30 pm for bicycle donations.
Vancouver Volunteer Nights are every Tuesday from 6:00-8:30 pm and no skills
are required.
