Bend CX Course?

Brad Cockman, DC

From what I understand it's going up the general direction of the

Cascade Old Mill Criterium and will go thru a field on the upper level

and use the big grassy field that was adjacent to the start/finish.

There was also talk of stairs being involved. Don Leet does have a map,

but it may have been altered a little from that. I'm sure the Knights

have figured out something sufficiently tortuous and capable of handling

the 100 rider fields we've been seeing. I don't think it will be much

like the Bend races that happened early season but will use some of the

same terrain.

I know there are some other Bendies that have actually ridden the

proposed course and I think Don L. avoids computers so anyone else want

to chime in?

I see on the flyer that the Amphitheater area/Mill District is the site

of the cx district champs race course this weekend? Is this still

correct? Are we looking at a very short loop, shorter than Estacada?

Maybe some of the Bend area riders/Crusade Promoters have some insight

to share. I seem to recall the lap counts from some of those early

season Bend races being quite high (14-15 laps???).

In other news, the weather report doesn't seem to show any signs of

snow... *yet* :) But, look out for those low a.m. temps in the 20's!...

Maybe we need one of those Johnson Farm bonfires?

That probably worked fine for the small numbers at the Bend races, but

with up to 120 to 130 riders on the course for some races, it could be

very difficult, particularly if it s a narrow twisty course as the Bend

races were. Of course, the organizers are very clever and well

organized, so I am sure that are way ahead of us and have addressed the

issue.
