Want something to do Sunday Dec 5 at around 11am?
PASS THE OXYGEN PLEASE: I will be showing my 51-minute reality film of
my recent trip, Biking the Highest Paved Road in in the World, 16,000
feet (Peru). This is the first of a couple of showings I'll do.
Location: Bike Friday, 3364 W11th Eugene, 1-800-777-0258
First, we'll all meet as usual at 9.30 a.m. for the regular First
Sunday of the Month ride, and do an easy flat route the whole family
can enjoy. All welcome. Hardcore types can detour over Gimpl or
Greenhill if you want.
Then... SHOWTIME! You can see a 5-minute sample, filmed entirely on my
Canon digital Elph camera (can you believe that), plus read about this
ascent, here:

The trip was led by Race Across America champ Lon Haldeman, and
followed a 500 mile, 12-day route from the barren hills of Lima over
the 16,000 foot Ticlo mountain pass, down through spectacular terraced
valleys to Satipo, a remote, steamy inland jungle town where local
police said we were the first foreigners to reach there by bicycle.
You'll see footage of a remote orphanage where 85 Peruvian children,
whose parents were slain by guerillas, live on the salary of the sole
nun who cares for them. I shall be taking donations for these kids -
$40 would feed all 84 of them for a day. You could do this trip with
him next year!
We'll have the usual hot soup and bread after the ride, so tell me
you're coming in advance and I'll count you in. If you would like to
bring something to share potluck style it would be appreciated.
