Arthur Conan Doyle wrote that after "Priory School" was published cyclists informed him that he was wrong, so he went out and tried the experiment himself. He found that the rear tire track was a bit deeper going up hill.



After viewing the graphs on the wolfram site, I can only say that the cyclist was totally unable to hold a line. :)

Maybe. If there are skid marks or spinouts it would be pretty easy.

If the tire tread is directional, maybe because the tires may not be

mounted "correctly". On a flat(ish) trail you can not be sure.



If you came across a set of bicycle tracks in the mud, could you

determine which way the bicycle was going simply by examining the tracks?
