I sent a message off to the Chief Official about pulling lapped riders at

the upcoming National Championships. Her answer is below. Her response is

addressed regarding the masters women field but can be taken for the other

fields also

Candi

It will not be my intention to pull riders in your race. Your field should

be small enough so we can accurately keep track of all riders for the

results. What I will mention in my instructions on the line is that riders

who are out of contention or lapped will be allowed to finish the race as

long as they are not interferring with or impeding the progress of the

leaders. The course and course conditions may cause me to change my mind

because my main concerns will be that the race is safe and fair for all

competitors but it is highly unlikely I will change my mind.   Lapped riders

do finish on the same lap as the leader and what I may do is ask any riders

who are lapped not to cross the finish line on the final lap to avoid

having lapped riders in the finish photos with the race leaders but they

will be placed in the results accordingly. I will try to have an official

stand at a particular spot to deviate any riders off the course before the

finish line if I can. Once I see the course I will know if this is a

possibility.

Look forward to seeing you in Portland. If you have any other concerns feel

free to contact me.
