Read the newer wheelbuilding book by Gerd Schraner, who is a DT spoke

company employee and pro race mechanic for many years. I just bought it

and am finding good advice even with 25 years of wheelbuilding behind me.

A better place to ask and look would be the cycling newsgroups:

rec.bicycles.tech and rec.bicycles.marketplace.

If you don't know about newsgroups, then inquire with your ISP.

Having said that, there are numerous good lightweight wheels. Both Lew

wheels and Velomax look pretty nice.   Campy's are nice too. I'm sure

there's lots more too. There are always a lot of variables for wheels

though so you or your friend might want to do some research first.

Read "the bicycle wheel"

Goto branfordbike.com for some good info too.

A friend is looking to buy a set of Zipp 909's and

I am not sure if these wheels are the best for

durability. He is looking for lightweight and stiff,

and I thought I'd put it to the people who have an

idea

of what wheels would be the best for this. I am

concerned he is going to be wasting a bunch of money

on a set of wheels, when something else would have

been equally good, or better for LESS money. He is

not concerned about the cost, but I think not being

concerned is just foolish.

Any ideas for what wheels are best for timetrials?
