Velodrome Directors Meet in New Mexico
This past weekend the directors from many of the nations velodromes
met after a Two year break to review and discuss the state of track
cycling in America. Some items up for discussion involved rider
attendance, upgrading guidelines, non-USAC sanctioned races, a
national race series, along with youth cycling development and many
other issues.

ATRA TOUR 2001
=46or the first time the association has taken it upon themselves to
put on a national race series.
ATRA Tour 2001 will be an 8 race series crisscrossing the country to
bring elite racing to your local track. The overall prize list is
expected to run upwards of $35,000. There will also be an ATRA
National Jersey awarded to the mens 10 mile champion and womens 5
mile champion
2000 ATRA Annual Meeting
Rio Rancho, New Mexico
December 8-10, 2000
The American Track Racing Association met for its annual meeting in
Rio Rancho, New Mexico site of what will soon be America=B9s 20th
Velodrome, the Skydrome. Eleven velodromes were represented at this
meeting. The group worked with the Southwest Velodrome Association in
its final planning phases for the new velodrome prior to discussing
national issues. The following are resolutions that came out of the
meeting that ATRA will adopt in the coming year.
ATRA will support and assist groups interested in developing
velodrome facilities and programs.
ATRA will prepare a survey to be circulated to all US velodromes
regarding community programs.
ATRA supports junior gear restrictions for track cycling as well as road.
ATRA members will create a National Track Series and sanction it under USAC.
ATRA will continue the current upgrading system for track cyclists.
ATRA sees the need to recruit officials locally and must continue to
improve education.
ATRA will not tolerate drug use and invites USADA to attend local and
national track events.
ATRA is firmly against any and all gambling, gaming, collusion, race
fixing, and pari-mutuel betting in American track racing.
ATRA will create a website as a resource for information related to
the national track scene.

The site of the 2001 ATRA meeting will be Trexlertown, PA, home of
the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. The meetings will be held during the
first week of November.
The American Track Racing Association (ATRA) is formed by the United
States velodromes to advance the sport of track cycling, the capital
improvements of our facilities and for the promotion of track riding
and racing.
