Ellener Peavyhouse
Hi all,
Well, four months from tomorrow is the Race Across Oregon of which I will
be participating in. Last year, I competed as part of a team. We
completed the race in 29 hours and some odd minutes crossing from Ontario
to Astoria for 492 miles. We had such a good time and I was in such awe of
those doing the race solo that I have decided to do this race as my debut
of sorts into the world of ultramarathoning racing. I have been training
all winter for this and have already done more centuries than I can count
on one hand so I am well on my way to being ready for this event.
To this end, I am beginning logistical preparations. I am in need of a
crew to support me throughout the event. What I need is a crew made up of
at from 2-4 people. I need people who really love cycling and would like
to find out exactly what this ultracycling is all about. On June 10th, I
will leave at 5 am from Ontario head west to climb the Santiam Pass
(probably descending down in the wee hours of the morning:-)descending at
night is fun) hit Corvallis at midmorning Sunday and make it to Astoria
sometime between 5PM and 10PM Sunday evening. I anticipate to finish in as
quick as 36 hours or as slow as 10 PM.
What I need are people you are willing to head to Ontario on Friday then
spend the next two days leap frogging me during the day, following my rear
tire after dark and help me with anything I need. My goal is to make it to
Ontario in reasonably comfortable shape. I need people to give me liquids,
food, moral support, humor breaks, cheerleading squads along the side of
the road, who won't let me back into the Durango even if I'm crying, give
me caffeine at 2 am when I'm swerving around on my bike or think I'm seeing
tree people coming out of the treeline to take my bike from me (my favorite
hallucination from last years ride:-)) You cannot take it personal if I'm
ignoring you in the van except for my most selfserving needs and desires
(and don't look when I stop at the side of the road to pee~:-)) What you
will can from all this is a memorable experience unlike anything you might
have seen to this point in the racing world. You will also gain my utmost
respect for putting up with and supporting me while I engage in my trip
through insanity and see what I'm like at the other end. Oh yes, I will
also pay for motels for Friday in Ontario and Sunday in Astoria (if you are
nuable to drive home that night-I know I won't be), snacks and sodas and
what not for the trip since there aren't a lot of stores to stop at in some
sections of the ride, oh and if I haven't already said so, you also get my
utmost respect and gratitude for helping me out.
Hopefully, I don't sound too flippant in the presentation of this request,
it is just that I am incredibly excited. If you can help me out please
email me back at skyc-@proaxis.com and lets see what we can work out.
Thanx a bunch.
