I would like to invite all women to try mountain bike
racing. There are a number of different classes for
women, with different amounts of milage depending on
your class. It is great, just ask the women that
already race.

On the topic of women racers
OK, I have a question/comment.
At the Banana Belt, for example, the men pro/1/2
will be doing 5 laps the
first week, while the 3s (and I guess 4/5s?) are
doing 4. More experience =
more laps. On the other hand the women 1/2/3 and
the women 4 all do 4 laps.
Why aren't the 4s doing fewer laps? I may be alone
here, but I gotta say
that as a 4 who has done nothing other than time
trials and PIR, the idea of
racing 4 laps around the relentlessly hilly Hagg
Lake is too daunting. I'm
not picking on Banana Belt. Other races, Piece of
Cake for example, also
expect the beginner women to do the same number of
laps as the more
experienced women.
I saw that at the Cherry Pie, the women 4s will be
doing only one lap
instead of the two that the rest of the women are
doing. If I'm not too
sore after Jack Frost, I may consider giving this a
try. But 44 hilly miles
around Hagg Lake for a beginner? It seems like too
much. Last year I
volunteered at 2 banana belt races and the slower
women were spread out for
MILES. That has got to be discouraging.
Just my thoughts. All the women who have been
lobbying for MORE laps will
probably want to beat up on me now. :)
