I really have enjoyed the MTB series that I have done here so far, just wish more people showed up.

However, I would recommend that you have a single-speed (SS) class in the Elite rather than Expert. In my experience racing single speed in the North Central region (MN,WI). We see single speed fields of 15-30 riders. Most of these riders in SS are former hardcore racers that are looking to do something different. We prefer the longer distances because then SS become more competitive againts the geared bikes. So my suggestion to you is to consider moving the Expert SS into the Elite race/distances. You may even consider moving the sport SS into the same race. You may find you get more turnout for SS class this way.

Also, I would recommend awarding prices for overall race ranking rather that just within the respective class. Nothing is more satisfying beating a bunch of geared bikes with only one speed.

Just my .02.

PS, I really have enjoyed the MTB series that I have done here so far, just wish more people showed up.

Just curious, but do people really think we make tons of money? Do people realize that a race they show up to for 3 hours was being planned 4 months earlier? Countless letters to sponsors with some yes answers, but many more no answers. Meetings with different agencies, trail maintenance and fees. Add on top of that a very, very small group of people who want to track all the series points and want to make a "series," out of it, and for what, a few entry fees? There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that the majority of people have no idea about. There are probably 3 or 4 series emails (to the promoters) dealing with issues every week. Questioning a high school mt. bike series that has been run by h.s clubs every year? I'm baffled!

Nothing is perfect and things can always be improved. What I would ask of anyone, who seems to have a problem with the system, is to offer to help out and to present your thoughts in a respectful, constructive (including replies to this email) way. Two years ago when I ran Pickett's as a stage race (hopefully this year too!) I was up until 4am doing results on Saturday night, then up at 6am to get the next day set up. I would have loved a few extra people offering to help me, but unfortunately, as in road races, it's hard to get even the minimum number of people to help. This happens to all promoters (maybe not all, but a lot).

Is this email going to help, or hurt the issue? That's up to you all. As stated earlier please take your time in compiling a response to this and/or other issues, and be reasonable about what you say and who you talk about.

Thanks a shit ton to Randy D, Jim F, Kevin T and every other promoter out there, 'cause when they get fed up, are you going to take their place?

Perhaps a requirement that each individual member get at least one race

organizer to testify that they helped with the production of a race would be

a better mandatory requirement.

Yes! Yes! right on Damian!

The rider complaints I've heard over the years baffle and sadden me, ok, the

odd bit of anger too. Is it because we live in world of entitlement and

privilege? Are people so used to everything polished and worked to

perfection that the issues inevitable to any complex event become personal

insult for some poor mistreated rider?

The only reason I can think of for mandatory race presentation for each club

in OBRA is that far more OBRA members would understand just how hard

presenting a race is and how few the rewards.

Yes! Yes! right on Damian!

The rider complaints I've heard over the years baffle and sadden me, ok, the odd bit of anger too. Is it because we live in world of entitlement and privilege? Are people so used to everything polished and worked to perfection that the issues inevitable to any complex event become personal insult for some poor mistreated rider?

The only reason I can think of for mandatory race presentation for each club in OBRA is that far more OBRA members would understand just how hard presenting a race is and how few the rewards.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] who exactly has a problem with our mt bike series?

I was just wondering why every year a few people always have to speak up about what they think is wrong with our mountain bike series and question the integrity of the promoters.

Thanks for reading, let the stoning commence!
